MediaGater.com - Reviews, Discussions and Firmware Updates

We have been seeing some good promotions on these media players now. xPCgear.com currently has $10 and $20 MIR for MediaGates, plus free 2 day shipping. Get a $69 500GB SATA II hard drive from newegg and you have the best deal in town.

It’s oficial. Firefox 2 only had 1.6 million downloads on the first day of launch, which only took Firefox 3 five hours.

The Mozilla team had hoped for five million downloads for Firefox 3 in its first 24 hours of release. Approximately 13 hours after its release, Firefox 3 passed the 5million download mark. They are almost confirmed to set a Guinness World Record. Their SpreadFireFox site shows 9,459,616 total downloads as of now. Are you one of the 9 million?

It seemed that the new 1.1.11 firmware has also solved the intermittent freezing/crashing problems. I found that the MediaGate player tends to freeze when streaming wirelessly. It is pretty stable when wired to a router.

MG-450HD 1.1.11 Firmware is available now. It fixed the following problems:

  • HDMI/DVI detection problem.
  • Some usb devices in USB host ports, were not detected correctly.
  • IRadio Buffering and “Stop” lockup issue.
  • You can download this new MediaGate firmware on the MG-450HD page. I also added a How-to guide if you need help flashing firmware.

The MediaGate manual is posted on the MG-450 HD page. There are detailed installation instructions, basic configuration setup, explanation of the main menu icons, setup menu icons, video/audio connectors and buttons.

    MediaGate MG-450HD Pictures

I had taken the pictures of MG-450 HD, but really don’t have time to Photoshop them. I will try to post them before next weekend.

The price of MediaGate MG-450HD starts to drop now. They are selling at $215 - lower than MG-350HD. You can buy one of these by finding them on those bargain sites, such as Dealous or XBbargains.

Well, this is a very old hard drive that I took from my old computer. This IBM/Hitachi was manufactured Mar 2003. I have a 80GB that is even older but still working, not sure if I should get a new IDE hard drive.

One of my friends wanted to buy MG-450 HD, so I ordered one for him (using his credit card). It was on sale for $219 with free 2 day air shipping. Really good deal - cheaper than the MediaGate 350HD. Those media players are getting cheaper. We received it last week and I will post some pictures later this weekend. It has the newer smaller package same as the MG-45’s. Everything inside looks identical to the MG-350 HD except the user’s manual. We are waiting for the 500GB hard drive to arrive so we can put them together. We’ve got a good deal (without rebate) on the SATA hard drive from an online store.

I updated the pictures in the MediaGate MG45 product page. Take a look if you are looking to buy one.

I saw one online merchant marked MediaGate MG450 HD as “in stock now”. The price is actually lower than the IDE version MG-350HD. Here is the link.

A friend of mine bought a MediaGate MG450 when he traveled to Australia last week. It looks identical to MediaGate MG-350 HD but uses the newer package same as MG-45.

MG-450HD will go on sale in the US next week.

Finally, the wireless serial ATA MG450 arrives US.

I installed Firefox 3.0 Beta 4 (V. 3.0b4) last week. Again, the improvement
focused on security and UI. I couldn’t “feel” improvement on performance though.
I decided to uninstall it yesterday and found some problems after removing it.
I’d like to share my experience with you so you can save some time figuring out
the problems if you happen to uninstall Firefox 3.

I got an error message after clicking a link in Microsoft Outlook saying
“This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this
computer. Please contact your system administrator.”

I fixed the problem by going to Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (MS IE7) and set
it to be the default browser, and then set Mozilla Firefox 2 to be the default
    browser. Problem fixed!

If you only have one browser available, you can go to Start -> Control Panel ->
Add Remove Programs -> Program Access and Defaults -> Custom -> Choose a default
Web browser -> choose whatever is not selected -> click OK -> choose the default
browser you prefer -> your problem is fixed.

     Hope this helps!

Steve Ballmer of Microsoft has confirmed that they are developing software that will support Sony’s Blu-ray high definition movie format to the Windows operating system (OS). He avoided questions about Xbox 360’s Blu-ray support. Microsoft Xbox 360 is the major competitor of Sony Playstation 3.

“We’ve already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like, and I think the world moves on,” said Ballmer at the Mix08 conference.

“Toshiba has moved on. We’ve moved on, and we’ll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense.”

I ordered a MediaGate MG-35 for my co-worker and found that MG-35 has the same smaller packaging as the MG45. I will post the pictures shortly.

I updated latest firmware for MG Media Players today

    MediaGate MG35 Version 1.4.9: http://www.mediagater.com/MediaGate-MG-35.html

    MediaGate MG350 HD Version 1.1.7: http://www.mediagater.com/MediaGate-MG-350-HD.html

    MediaGate MG25 Version 1.5.0: http://www.mediagater.com/MediaGate-MG-25.html

According to FT, MS is talking to Sony about this cooperation.

This is the lowest price for MediaGate MG45 I’ve seen so far. Most merchants sell it for $140.

I uploaded the pictures of the new smaller packaging. The contents inside are same, but the box looks much smaller. The color is black-background instead of white-background.

I have seen two online stores taking pre-orders of these serial ATA hard drive version now! The prices are actually cheaper than MG-350HD. The ship date is at end of March.

BestBuy sells Xbox 360 HD DVD Player with 6 HD-DVDs for only $49.99. Let’s watch the prices keep going down.

I received my MediaGate last Tuesday. The serial ata model has a new packaging. Other than that, it looks identical to the MG-35 I have. I installed a new Western Digital 500GB SATA but do not have time to play with that yet. My MG-35 used to have some issue with Vista. I hope that the MediaGate MG-45’s firmware has solved the issue.

    Blu-Ray Wins!

Warner Bros, and then Amazon and Universal… Sigh!

I checked the specs of the player. It does not have DVI port, well, at least I can use component for high definition signals.

I have been playing movies on my 24″ LCD in the study room. I am finally ready to set it up for my big screen in the living room. Let’s see if the wireless model perform as good as the wired MediaGate MG35.

I ordered one last night. The website said it’s in stock! Hopefully it can arrive next week as scheduled.
